Coupons add value to family life

U.S. Catholic polled its readers on their favorite Christmas experiences and practices. Many parents listed homemade coupon books as the favorite gift they’ve received. These are the hand-printed (or now, computer-generated) booklets in which their kids offer coupons good for free hugs, chores, meals prepared, or back rubs. But for the same reasons these homemade gifts are a hit with parents (they’re personal and demonstrate how much the kids appreciate ol’ Mom or Dad), they might make ideal stocking stuffers from you. You can personalize these to fit your relationship with each child. Include coupons good for: your kid’s favorite meal, favorite dessert, a ride to the mall without a lecture, 10 minutes free to gripe without parental interruption, and so on. You’ll know what freebies will appeal to your child. Don’t forget to include free hug coupons, 10 free minutes of reading a story, and a free chance to sit on a parent’s lap–no questions asked. I think your kids will appreciate the thoughtfulness and the personal touch. Who wouldn’t?
