Prayer works

Here’s a story for those who wonder whether prayer does any good. My friend Kathleen was telling her aunt about a horrible highway accident she’d witnessed on the way home from the aunt’s house. "The worst part was feeling so useless. All I could do was sit in my car and pray for the people who may have been hurt in the crash."

Her aunt cautioned her not to dismiss those moments of prayer. "I witnessed an accident on that same highway a few years back; it’s a dangerous stretch of road. I remember praying as the ambulance took bodies away. A year later, a young woman knocked on my door. She asked if I had witnessed an accident a while back. I told her I had. She said she had been one of those people hurt in the accident. She had been terrified for her life, but as she passed my car she saw me praying. ‘I was so grateful for your concern that I burned your license plate number in my memory. Now that I’ve recovered I wanted to look you up and give you these.’ And she handed me a bouquet of flowers. So, honey, you never know who your prayers are going to help." Amen. TJM
